The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Today’s Scripture & Insight: John 12:26

The world tells us that true happiness is when others serve you. As we go through life, nothing could really be further from the truth. In reality, self-centeredness leads to an empty life.

We find the true nature of our adversary satan in John 8:44. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.[1]

Why does our adversary tell us such lies? In John 10:10 , Jesus gives us amazing insight into the objective of our enemy. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. [2]

Our enemy, satan, wants us to lead a life that is all about us. He knows this will steal our joy and work to destroy us. Our Lord Jesus Christ comes to do just the opposite. A life centered around following the good Shepherd is one that is fulfilling.

The father of John the Baptist was a faithful servant of God and found fulfilment in being a priest. One day Zechariah was serving God in the Temple, for his order was on duty that week. As was the custom of the priests, he was chosen by lot to enter the sanctuary of the Lord and burn incense. 10 While the incense was being burned, a great crowd stood outside, praying. [3] Luke 1:8-10.

Jesus says in John 12:26, “Anyone who wants to serve me must follow me, because my servants must be where I am. And the Father will honor anyone who serves me.[4]

Do you want to find true fulfillment and joy in life? Pray and ask the Lord how you can serve Him. We will be amazed when we listen to the Lord and begin to follow His will for us. He will take us astounding places as we serve Him.
