God created man in His own image (Gen. 1:27), and because Satan is an enemy of God, he is an enemy of us. Satan likes to use people like pawns to accomplish his mission. In the story of David and Goliath, he used the Philistines, a group of unbelievers. In our world, satan will use anyone who will rebel against God. In our story, Goliath is the champion of the Philistines, in real life, satan is the champion of evil and comes to kill, steal and destroy. Jesus gives us the contrast between Himself and satan, who He calls a thief in John 10:10. A thief has only one thing in mind—he wants to steal, slaughter, and destroy. But I have come to give you everything in abundance, more than you expect—life in its fullness until you overflow![1]
We are given insight to who is on what side by their actions. The enemies of God curse God and His followers just like Goliath does. Often the enemies of God view themselves as enlightened, yet they are really deceived. 2 Cor. 4: 4 Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.[2] Here satan is called the god of this age. He uses trickery, deceit, accusation, and slander to blind people’s hearts.
Today there is a battle going on for the souls of America. The battle lines are drawn. How has the enemy been battling you? The enemy looks to defeat us, but remember God is still in control.
