The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Have you ever gone on a trust walk?  In a trust walk one person is blindfolded and is led through an obstacle course by another person. The goal of the exercise is to develop trust. When you are blindfolded you cannot see what the other person sees. Because they can see what you can’t, they are able to take you places you could not go by yourself.

When Jesus asked Peter to go out into deeper water for a catch of fish, He was able to see what Peter could not. Peter had to trust that Jesus saw things he could not see. Peter’s trust and obedience in Jesus resulted in a great catch of fish.

Luke 5:When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.” “Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.” And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear![1]

The good news about this story is that it is still true today. Jesus sees things that we don’t see. Jesus knows the person who is hurting and prompts us to pray. Jesus sees when we need to take a step into deeper water because that is part of His plan for our life. Jesus sees people that are invisible to the world and opens our eyes to have compassion on them. Jesus sees the trap the enemy is placing before you and warns you of the danger ahead. Jesus sees what you could become and calls you to trust Him as He leads you. Jesus sees the danger of an unkind word and prompts you to be quiet. Jesus sees the importance of an encouraging word and gives you with the words to say. Jesus sees the dangerous path you are on and calls you back from the edge of disaster.

What does the Lord see that you can’t? Where is He calling you to trust Him to take a step of faith? How can listening to the still small voice of the Holy Spirit help you to see what the Lord sees? As you open your heart to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit, don’t be surprised when He gives you insight into things you cannot see.
