The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

John 1:13 Not Born of Man's Will But Of God (black)

John begins his Gospel with Jesus being present at creation. Everything that was created was created through Him. This takes place in Genesis 1 and 2, but by Genesis 3 humankind had sinned and corrupted creation. Humankind’s relationship with God was broken. But God had promised a solution then and John presents this solution to his readers.

Reborn

John 1:12But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. 13 They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God. [1] Why do I need to be born again and what does that mean? Have you been born again?

A Jewish religious leader name Nicodemus asked Jesus that same question. This was Jesus’ answer. John 3:Jesus replied, “I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life. So don’t be surprised when I say, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it wants. Just as you can hear the wind but can’t tell where it comes from or where it is going, so you can’t explain how people are born of the Spirit.” [2]

Rebirth is the Solution

In John 1:13 and John 3:5-8, we see the need to be born spiritually. This is the answer to the corruption of sin. It happens as we place our faith in Jesus as our Savior.  The relationship with God is restored and we become part of His family. We are adopted in His family and can spend eternity with God.

The new spiritual beginning that Jesus offers is so complete, so all-encompassing, that He called it being born again. It’s not enough to follow a few new rules. Jesus offers us something better: a fresh start. As he did for Nicodemus, Jesus offers you the joy of being born again, the joy of a fresh start at life because of God’s amazing forgiveness and love.

Prayer:

Jesus Christ, I praise you for coming to save me and to give me new life. By your Holy Spirit, give me new birth that results in a life of faith, hope, and love. In your name, Amen.
