The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Hebrews 11:6 ~ Today's Bible Verse | News and Views

The most important aspect of any person is faith in the Jesus. Be assured, faith in the Lord makes a difference. Have you placed your faith in Jesus as your Savior or are you struggling with that? What does the Bible tell us about the importance of faith?

Hebrews 11:6And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. [1] Faith in the Lord opens doors no one can shut, and lack of faith sends our life in a spiral away from God and His blessings. When we talk about faith it means to believe to the extent of complete trust and reliance—‘to believe in, to have confidence in, to have faith in, to trust, faith, trust.’[2] That trust is in God Himself.

Faith of Abel

Heb.11:It was by faith that Abel brought a more acceptable offering to God than Cain did. Abel’s offering gave evidence that he was a righteous man, and God showed his approval of his gifts. Although Abel is long dead, he still speaks to us by his example of faith. [3]

What motivated Abel to bring such an offering? It was faith. It was trust in the Lord. His offering was motivated from his heart to please God. Abel’s offering was a response to what was inside of him because our actions often show what is on the inside.

Jesus tells us in Matthew 7:17, “A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit.”[4]The fruit that came from Abel was an offering that God loved. The Apostle Paul writes in 2 Cor. 5:7, “For we live by believing and not by seeing.”[5] Where is the Lord asking you to step out in faith? How would your life change for the better if you did? What is holding you back?

Faith is Trusting the Lord

Faith really determines what the Lord can do in your life. God asks, “do you trust Me?” It is difficult for the Lord to work in our life if we don’t trust Him. When I was 37 years old, I felt led to become a pastor. I had faith the Lord had truly called me, so my wife and I quit our jobs, moved, and I went back to school for three years. At the time we had three kids, ages five and under.

Many people could not understand why we would do such a thing. It really came down to having faith and trusting the Lord. Faith in the Lord makes a difference.

My wife got a job at a large hospital that had not hired anyone in that position for two years. Wow! We sold our house in two weeks. Wow! We could step out in faith because we trusted the Lord.

The Lord is also with you as you take steps of faith! Faith gives you confidence like Abel to move ahead. It neutralizes fear and allows you to move forward.

Prayer placing your faith in Jesus:

“God, I recognize that I have not lived my life for You up until now. I have been living for myself and that is wrong. I need and want You in my life. Jesus Christ gave His life for me on the cross at Calvary, and I long to receive the forgiveness you have made freely available to me through this sacrifice. Come into my life now, Lord. Take up residence in my heart and be my king, my Lord, and my Savior. From this day forward, I will no longer be controlled by sin, or the desire to please myself, but I will follow You all the days of my life. Those days are in Your hands. I ask this in Jesus’ precious and holy name. Amen.”[6]
