The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Genesis 48 - Holy Bible English - BibleWordings.com

A friend who was suffering from the effects of the latest virus with a high fever called me a few days ago. He knew the God of miracles and asked for prayer. I prayed over the phone for him and asked the Lord to heal him in the name of Jesus. After I prayed for him, he indicated that he felt a little better.

The next day when I spoke to him, he was doing much better. He told me right after he got off the phone with me, he took his temperature and it had dropped 1.5 degrees. He had just taken his temperature before speaking to me, so he knew it was the power of prayer and a miracle from God. Praise the Lord!

God did Miracles in Jacob’s Life

Jacob is nearing the end of his life and remembers the miracle that his reunion with Joseph was. Here is the story:

Jacob’s older sons were jealous of their younger brother Joseph and put him in a dry cistern. Later they pulled him out of the cistern and sold him to Midianite traders who took him down to Egypt and sold him as a slave. Then the brothers took his robe and soaked in goat’s blood and showed it to his father to infer he had been killed by wild animals. Genesis 37:34 Then Jacob tore his clothes and dressed himself in burlap. He mourned deeply for his son for a long time. 35 His family all tried to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted. “I will go to my grave mourning for my son,” he would say, and then he would weep. [1]

Many years went by and through a miracle Joseph goes from being a slave to second in command of the nation of Egypt.  When his brothers went to Egypt to purchase grain during a drought, Joseph pretended not to recognize them to test them. After this time of testing Joseph revealed himself to his brothers. They were afraid of retaliation, but Joseph forgave them. Then Joseph sent for his father and the rest of the family.

The Miracle of a Family Reunion

Jacob was overjoyed to see his son. Genesis 46:29When Joseph arrived, he embraced his father and wept, holding him for a long time. 30 Finally, Jacob said to Joseph, “Now I am ready to die, since I have seen your face again and know you are still alive.” [2] Can you imagine the smile on Jacob’s face when he saw his son Joseph?

Now several years later, Jacob is near the end of his life and is about to bless Joseph’s sons, and reflects on the miracle of seeing his lost son again. He knew the God of miracles. Genesis 48:10 Jacob was half blind because of his age and could hardly see. So Joseph brought the boys close to him, and Jacob kissed and embraced them. 11 Then Jacob said to Joseph, “I never thought I would see your face again, but now God has let me see your children, too! [3]

God Wants to do a Miracle in Your Life

Miracles from God are not far away or only for people in the Bible, but also for you. The greatest miracle the Lord gave us was the gift his Son born almost 2000 years ago. Luke 2:11 The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! 12 And you will recognize him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger.” 13 Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others—the armies of heaven—praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.” [4]

Jesus has come into this world to rescue you from your sin. If you are a believer in Jesus, God has done a miracle in your heart. If you are not a believer yet the Lord wants to extend to you the miracle of faith.

Prayer to the God of Miracles

Lord Jesus, for too long I’ve kept you out of my life. I know that I am a sinner and that I cannot save myself. No longer will I close the door when I hear you knocking. By faith I gratefully receive your gift of salvation. I am ready to trust you as my Lord and Savior. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for coming to earth. I believe you are the Son of God who died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead on the third day. Thank you for bearing my sins and giving me the gift of eternal life. I believe your words are true. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus, and be my Savior. Amen. [5]
