Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

2 Corinthians 5:7 Walk by Faith - Free Bible Verse Art ...

Why is letting the Lord direct our steps so difficult? We think, because of our sinful nature, that we don’t need anyone’s help.  Yet, every time we forget God, it doesn’t end well. Many times, we only call out to God when we are desperate.  It is when we realize our foolish path that we turn to God. It is a humbling to realize that faith directs our steps.

Hebrews 11, the faith chapter, gives us amazing insight. Hebrews 11:1 Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.[1] We must trust God before we will put our faith into action. Often, we want to understand everything about God’s promises before we are willing to act.

The Apostle Paul gives insight into how to walk by faith. 2 Corinthians 5:7 For we live by believing and not by seeing.[2] God gives us a new beginning when we are willing to do this. Do you need a new beginning as you trust the Lord more?

Faith Directed the Actions of Joseph and Moses’ Parents

Hebrews 11: 22 It was by faith that Joseph, when he was about to die, said confidently that the people of Israel would leave Egypt. He even commanded them to take his bones with them when they left.

23 It was by faith that Moses’ parents hid him for three months when he was born. They saw that God had given them an unusual child, and they were not afraid to disobey the king’s command.[3]

The willingness of both Joseph and Moses’ parents gives us insight into their hearts.  Joseph was so sure that his people would return to the promised land that he made them promise to take his bones. Moses did just that. Exodus 13:19 Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for Joseph had made the sons of Israel swear to do this. He said, “God will certainly come to help you. When he does, you must take my bones with you from this place.” [4]

Moses’ parents trusted God and saved their son even though this meant breaking Pharaoh’s law.  God used Moses to lead His people out of captivity.

In Faith Let the Lord Guide Your Steps

Life is unpredictable. Because life is full of uncertainties, crossroads, and unknowns, our tendency is to worry. Apprehension can consume our minds and prevent us from living life to the full.  As I write this many people are filled with fear because of the Covid virus. Fear and worry will such the energy from you if you allow it.

Jesus gives us insight to prevent this. Matthew 6:34So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.[5]He knew we can easily get wrapped up in all the “what if’s” of life. Jesus knows faith directs our steps.

Even though we don’t know what tomorrow holds, God does. He is not worried! What is unknown to us is history to Him. Moses’ parents did not know what was ahead, but they trusted God knew. He knows how it all plays out and He is in control. No matter what each day brings, we can trust that He has a plan for our lives and a path for us to walk down. Psalm 37:23The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.[6]
