Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

treasures in heaven song - YouTube

What do you think of when you hear the word “treasure?” Often, we think of gold, silver, or jewels. Some people spend their entire lifetime pursuing such things. In doing this, they waste the life God has given them and thwart the plans God has for them. What if the Lord of the universe wanted to give you a gift so big it was beyond your comprehension? What about the treasures of heaven?

The Apostle Paul speaks of such a gift. 2 Corinthians 2:9That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” [1] This is the treasure of life forever with Jesus. It begins as you place your faith in Jesus as your Savior. It sounds too good to be true, but this is the gift that Jesus wants to give to you.

Moses’ Real Treasure Was Eternity with God

Hebrews 11: 26 Moses thought it was better to suffer for the sake of Christ than to own the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking ahead to his great reward.[2] The life of Moses was not easy, and he endured great hardships by keeping his focus on the Lord.

By identifying with the people of God and sharing in their hardship, Moses ultimately served the cause of Christ.”[3]

The Treasure of Heaven is Made Possible by Christ

The Apostle Paul gives us insight. Philippians 3: 12 I (Paul) don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. 13 No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. [4]

While eternal life with Jesus is a free gift for those of us who place our faith in Him, He had to pay a price. Jesus died on the cross to pay the price for our sins. This made the restoration of our relationship with the Father possible. Jesus’ desire is for every person to be saved. 2 Peter 3:9The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed but wants everyone to repent.[5] If you are not yet a believer in Jesus, the Lord is calling you today.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, for too long I’ve kept you out of my life. I know that I am a sinner and that I cannot save myself. No longer will I close the door when I hear you knocking. By faith I gratefully receive your gift of salvation. I am ready to trust you as my Lord and Savior. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for coming to earth. I believe you are the Son of God who died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead on the third day. Thank you for bearing my sins and giving me the gift of eternal life. I believe your words are true. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus, and be my Savior. Amen.[6]
