Putting our faith into action has always been a journey for me. There have been times when I did and other times where I fell short. Maybe you have experienced the same thing along your spiritual journey.
Why do I struggle at times and other times I have the courage to do what the Holy Spirit is prompting me to do? The simple answer is our sinful nature. Our old self does not want to put our faith into action and to do so is a constant battle on the inside.
Josiah put his Faith into Action
After hearing God’s word in the book of the law, Josiah realized that he needed to make changes in the Kingdom of Judah. Josiah humbled himself before the Lord and destroyed idols that displeased the Lord.
2 Kings 22:4 Then the king instructed Hilkiah the high priest and the priests of the second rank and the Temple gatekeepers to remove from the Lord’s Temple all the articles that were used to worship Baal, Asherah, and all the powers of the heavens. The king had all these things burned outside Jerusalem on the terraces of the Kidron Valley, and he carried the ashes away to Bethel.
5 He did away with the idolatrous priests, who had been appointed by the previous kings of Judah, for they had offered sacrifices at the pagan shrines throughout Judah and even in the vicinity of Jerusalem. They had also offered sacrifices to Baal, and to the sun, the moon, the constellations, and to all the powers of the heavens.[1]
Just because Josiah was King does not mean what he did was easy. The same is true for us. As believers we may be weak, but the Lord is strong. As we call on the Lord, He will give us strength to help us overcome the weaknesses that prevent us from putting our faith into action.
Even Paul Struggled to Put his Faith into Action
The Apostle Paul honestly shares that he also struggled with doing the right thing. Romans 7:15.I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate. [2]
We think of the Apostle Paul as this amazing person of faith and yet he also had times where he struggled. There is nothing wrong with admitting our failure and our need for the Lord’s help and forgiveness when we fall short. As we humble ourselves the Lord will lift us up and give us another opportunity to put our faith into action. Take a step today to pray and ask the Lord to help you to put your faith into action.
