The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Have you ever followed your own plan in life and found that it was not very fruitful? In fact, following my own plan seemed to be desert like. The Lord allowed me to learn a hard, but lasting lesson; only Jesus’ guidance is fruitful.

Perhaps you have been down a similar road and found out what the world offered was not so grand. In our story, Peter had been fishing all night and had not caught anything. Then Jesus came and gave Peter guidance and there is a great catch of fish. God has more for Peter and more for us. But it takes His fruitful guidance to get there.

Jesus Gives Peter Surprising Guidance

Luke 5:When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.” “Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.” And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear! [1]

Peter was the professional fisherman; Jesus was a carpenter. Peter knew that fish generally were not caught in the deep during the day. But to honor Jesus Peter did what Jesus said. The timing of the great catch makes it even more awesome.

Jesus Gives us Fruitful Guidance

Are you tired of how your life is right now? Do you desire a life that is more fruitful? I believe all of us want to live lives that make a difference in the world. The good news is the Lord’s divine guidance is readily available in His word.

The first step to His divine guidance is the most important. You must place your faith in Jesus as your Savior. The Lord tells us in Hebrews 11:And it is impossible to please God without faith.[2] Have you taken that step yet? If not, the Lord is calling you today. Today is the day of salvation. (Ref. 2Cor. 6:2) When we become believers in Jesus, we begin a lifelong journey of transformation and our entire eternity changes.

If you think it’s too late for you to become productive, think again. Instead of focusing on productivity as the world defines it, consider following the ways of Jesus. What spiritual fruit would you like the Lord to produce in you? Seek Him and through His power you will produce fruit that will last.
