The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Wonderful Counselor - Eric Echols

Do you need hope? Do you need to look forward to a future that is filled with goodness, peace, and encouragement? Isaiah tells us that Messiah or Jesus comes as a wonderful counselor.

All people need hope to sustain them. In the Old Testament era, the people looked forward to the coming of the Messiah who would be a Wonderful Counselor. Isaiah 9: For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. [1]

Hope is a powerful emotion that helps people look up to God as they look to the future. As believers in Jesus, we have the hope of eternal life. No matter our circumstance or health condition, the future ahead is amazing because of the Messiah we know as Jesus.

Jesus is not Just a Counselor, but a Wonderful Counselor

When Messiah comes as a Wonderful Counselor it indicates the kind of character He has. Wonderful in the context of this passage means incomprehensible, a miracle, or distinguished. [2] The Messiah would cause us to be full of wonder.

Luke, the Gospel writer, gives us insight into this Wonderful Counselor.  Luke 2:40There the child grew up healthy and strong. He was filled with wisdom, and God’s favor was on him. [3] In His public life, people were amazed at His wise counsel.

Later Paul would write about the wisdom of Jesus. Colossians 2:In Him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. [4]As our wonderful counselor We can trust Jesus as our wonderful counselor to listen to our problems and guide us in the right direction. Proverbs 3:6 Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. [5]

Having a Wonderful Counselor is Life Changing

When we place our faith in Jesus as our Savior, something wonderful and amazing happens. We become children of God and the Holy Spirit comes and lives in us. When we need wisdom, we can pray and ask for it. James 1:If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.[6]

No decision is too small or too large to be guided by the Lord. Perhaps you have a major decision to make and you are wondering what to do. The Lord is there right now as you read this to hear your prayer and guide your path. He is your Wonderful Counselor.
