Do you think there are blessings from obeying the Lord? Would you like the blessings of the Lord poured out upon your life? This may not be something that you have given much thought to but affects your daily journey of life.
The world usually thinks of blessings in terms of wealth, but God’s blessings are a different kind of wealth. God’s blessings are in the realm of spiritual blessings and inner peace the world cannot give.
James 2:5 Listen to me, dear brothers and sisters. Hasn’t God chosen the poor in this world to be rich in faith? Aren’t they the ones who will inherit the Kingdom he promised to those who love him? [1] James tells us that true richness and blessings is having a relationship with the Lord that transforms our life in this world. Also, as a believer, the Lord blesses you with the richness of eternal life when you die.
Zechariah and Elizabeth were Blessed by the Lord
Zechariah and Elizabeth strived to follow God in their lives. It was not something they had to do, but something they wanted to do. Their obedience grew out of their relationship with the Lord. They were not perfect by any means, but they consistently wanted to follow the Lord’s guidance.
Luke 1:5 When Herod was king of Judea, there was a Jewish priest named Zechariah. He was a member of the priestly order of Abijah, and his wife, Elizabeth, was also from the priestly line of Aaron. 6 Zechariah and Elizabeth were righteous in God’s eyes, careful to obey all of the Lord’s commandments and regulations.[2]
You Can be Blessed by Obeying the Lord
We live in a culture that rebels against God. Despite this, obeying the Lord has many blessings and benefits. While the world is filled with troubles the Lord gives us peace. John 14:27 “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.[3]
We can’t live the right life by ourselves, but the Lord helps us with the gift of the Holy Spirit. I may struggle obeying God, but I can call on God in prayer to ask for help and the strength that I need. Philippians 4:13 For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.[4]
I am blessed in growing in the fruits of the Spirit as the Lord helps me mature in the faith. The Apostle Paul gives us insight to the amazing gifts of the Holy Spirit. Galatians 5:22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! [5]
