Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Are you asking God for the impossible? Is the Lord prompting you to ask Him about something that seems impossible to you? One of my friends was about fifty years old and suffered from a chronic lung condition. The problem was hereditary and there was no cure. His healing came when a two-year-old daughter of a friend prayed for him. Genesis 18:14 Is anything too hard for the Lord?[1] This was the Lord’s response to Abraham when Sara laughed at having a child at age 99. What seems impossible with man and is possible with God.

Nehemiah Asked for Something That Seemed Impossible

Nehemiah responded to hearing the bad news about the walls being down and gates burned in his homeland of Jerusalem by crying out to the Lord in prayer. He would also confess his sins and the sins of the people and ask the Lord to remember.

Nehemiah 1:But if you return to me and obey my commands and live by them, then even if you are exiled to the ends of the earth, I will bring you back to the place I have chosen for my name to be honored.’ [2]

The cupbearer, Nehemiah, prayed for four months before asking the King for supplies to repair the walls and gates. Nehemiah 2:The king asked, “Well, how can I help you?” With a prayer to the God of heaven, I replied, “If it please the king, and if you are pleased with me, your servant, send me to Judah to rebuild the city where my ancestors are buried.”

The king, with the queen sitting beside him, asked, “How long will you be gone? When will you return?” After I told him how long I would be gone, the king agreed to my request. [3]The king asked, “Well, how can I help you?”

You Can Also Ask the Lord for the Impossible

Nehemiah’s request for the king’s help seemed unlikely, but God intervened and gave him favor. Don’t hesitate to go the Lord’s throne of grace! (Ref. Hebrews 4:16) Your request to the Lord also may seem impossible, but with God all things are possible. The Lord may answer your request or help you walk through this trial, both which may seem impossible.
