The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Have you ever been involved in fishing for souls? How did the Lord reach you with the Good News of Jesus? Or is He fishing for you today? Perhaps today, the Lord is calling you to be a fisher for souls. The Lord may want you to reach out to friends and family with His Good News.

I believe fishing for souls is a gift God gives us. Just ponder that for a while. The Lord wants to use us to reach other people with the Good News of Jesus. He wants to use you to change someone’s eternal destination.

Jesus called Peter, Andrew, James, and John to be fishers of souls. They had been fishing for fish, and now the Lord would call them to greater responsibilities in the Kingdom of God. Jesus talks about the value of the soul. Matthew 16: 26 And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul? [1]

Fishing for Souls is a Way to Bless Others

A young girl in our church invited one of her first-grade friends to Vacation Bible School. This was the first time this little girl heard about Jesus and how He died for our sins and rose again. This little girl came to faith, and her mother started attending church shortly after this. On one memorable Sunday, I was privileged to baptize both. Two new believers were added to the Kingdom of God because a six-year-old girl was willing to be a fisher for souls. This was a special gift to give a friend.

Fishing for Souls has Eternal Blessings

When we come to faith, God changes us on the inside and changes our eternal destination. He transforms us like a potter does clay. God desires all to have eternal life and connects it with faith. John 3:16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.[2] If you have never placed your faith in Jesus, today, the Lord Himself is fishing for your soul.

Prayer of Salvation

Lord Jesus, I’ve kept You out of my life for too long. I know that I am a sinner and cannot save myself. No longer will I close the door when I hear you knocking. By faith, I gratefully receive Your gift of salvation. I am ready to trust You as my Lord and Savior. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for coming to earth. I believe you are the Son of God who died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead on the third day. Thank you for bearing my sins and giving me the gift of eternal life. I believe your words are true. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus, and be my Savior. Amen.[3]
