Have you ever trusted someone and been disappointed when they let you down? I know I have been disappointed but have also been a disappointment to others. Sooner or later because of our sinfulness, we fall short of our promises. But trusting the Lord is different.
Fortunately, God is not like us, He is better. Isaiah 55:8 My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.[1] God always keeps His promises.
Abraham Trusted the Lord
Abraham trusted God above all else and it transformed his life. Hebrews 11:17 It was by faith that Abraham offered Isaac as a sacrifice when God was testing him. Abraham, who had received God’s promises, was ready to sacrifice his only son, Isaac, 18 even though God had told him, “Isaac is the son through whom your descendants will be counted.” 19 Abraham reasoned that if Isaac died, God was able to bring him back to life again. And in a sense, Abraham did receive his son back from the dead. [2]
God had promised Abraham many descendants through Isaac and Abraham trusted that God would keep his promise even though He had asked Abraham to sacrifice Isaac. Even though it didn’t make sense, Abraham trusted God to work it out.
Trusting the Lord Today
- Life is unpredictable and difficult at times, and that difficulty may persist for longer than you had hoped. It may even bring you to the end of your strength. So, what do you do then?
- Remember Jesus guaranteed His followers that they would face tough times (John 16:33) but He would be with them (Matthew 28:20).
- Remember to Trust God first. Sometimes as believers in Jesus, we act more like those who do not have faith. We trust our friends, the bank, the media, or the government more than we trust God and His Word.
- Stay connected to Jesus. John 15:5Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.[3] Abraham was fruitful in his faith walk because he stayed connected to the Lord. Continue to be in the Word and prayer.
- Remember who He has always been. Even in doubt and uncertainty, if you keep going to Him, He will continually show Himself to be trustworthy. Romans 8:28And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.[4]
