Believers Have an Eternal Inheritance

Believers have an eternal inheritance, which is so fantastic that it is hard to comprehend God’s amazing plan for His children. All this is possible because Jesus gave His life for us on the cross to pay for our sins. Hebrews 9:14 For by the power of the eternal Spirit, Christ offered himself to God as a perfect sacrifice for our sins. 15 That is why he is the one who mediates a new covenant between God and people so that all who are called can receive the eternal inheritance God has promised them.[1]

Our lives are temporary, but eternity waits for each person. Heaven awaits those who respond to the call of God with all the majesty and wonder you can imagine. Those who refuse the free gift of salvation offered by Jesus will be separated for all eternity in Hell, a place so terrible we can’t imagine. Several years ago, one of my friends drowned in a river. As a faithful believer, he entered his eternal inheritance with Jesus on the day he drowned. While we may inherit earthly wealth from our parents or relatives, our eternal inheritance is eternal and indestructible.

Our Hope is in Jesus

Jesus tells us that our eternal inheritance can never spoil or fade, unlike earthly wealth. Matthew 6: 19 Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal.[2] Although this great inheritance is not ours until our death, the Lord keeps it safe in heaven for us. Paul tells us in Ephesians 1:13-14 that the Holy Spirit is our deposit or promise of this beautiful inheritance.

Faith in Jesus doesn’t prevent us from going through difficult times, but the Lord is always with us in the storms of life. While people may let us down or make false promises, the Lord never will.

Heaven is Beautiful Because Jesus is There!

God gave the Apostle John a glimpse of heaven. Revelation 21: I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” [3]

This is the inheritance that we, as believers, will inherit. Hebrews 9:28b He (Jesus) will come again, not to deal with our sins, but to bring salvation to all who are eagerly waiting for him.[4] To learn more about how believers have an eternal inheritance, listen here:
