Your Son Will Live

In the story of a healed son, we see how the son will live. John 4: 50 Then Jesus told him, “Go back home. Your son will live!” And the man believed what Jesus said and started home.

51 While the man was on his way, some of his servants met him with the news that his son was alive and well. 52 He asked them when the boy had begun to get better, and they replied, “Yesterday afternoon at one o’clock his fever suddenly disappeared!” 53 Then the father realized that that was the very time Jesus had told him, “Your son will live.” And he and his entire household believed in Jesus.[1]

Physical Life Returned

John began his Gospel with these words: John 1:In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. [2]

From this, we can see that Jesus was part of the world’s creation, and His words gave life to creation. This same power allowed Jesus to say, “your son will live.” The father is amazed when he realizes that his son suddenly recovered at the same time Jesus said those words. The son’s physical health returned. Even though this son’s health had returned, eventually, he would go the way of all humanity and die. The physical restoration was only for a short time on this earth.

Eternal Spiritual Life Given.

But the story doesn’t end with the son’s health restored. The result of this miracle was that the entire household came to believe in Jesus. Faith in Jesus results in eternal life. John 3: 15 so that everyone who believes in him (Jesus) will have eternal life.[3] So when Jesus told the official that his son will live, there was more than one meaning. Yes, Jesus restored his physical life and gave him eternal life.

This happened because the head of the household, the official, was willing to ask Jesus for help. Are you willing to allow Jesus to do a restoring work in you? The man’s faith affected his circle of influence, and they also believed. Who in your circle of influence might be affected by your faith actions? More than one family has received salvation because of the actions of one family member.
