Tell What God Has Done

Tell what God has done were the words of Jesus to the man He freed from demon possession. Earlier in the day, demons controlled this man living in the tombs. When Jesus asked the demon his name, he told him it was Legion because many demons filled the man.

Jesus commanded the demons to come out, and the spirits left him, for He had authority over the demonic realm. As this deliverance took place, the demons asked Jesus not to send them to the bottomless pit but to send them into the nearby pigs. Jesus permitted them, and they entered the pigs, plunged them down the hill, and drowned them. In God’s grace, the man was healed, and he would begin a new life.

The Demon-Possessed Man Became a Disciple of Jesus

The townspeople responded in fear as they responded to this man’s deliverance, but the healed man was different. The townspeople chose to stay in darkness, but the deliverance allowed the man to see Jesus and changed his heart. Luke 8:38 The man who had been freed from the demons begged to go with him. But Jesus sent him home, saying, 39 “No, go back to your family, and tell them everything God has done for you.” So he went all through the town proclaiming the great things Jesus had done for him. [1]

A man who was once controlled by the forces of darkness was now free, telling others how Jesus freed him from demon possession. While the townspeople begged Jesus to leave, he begged to go with Jesus.

Tell What the Lord Has Done

This man returned to his home in a Gentile area. Jesus knew this restored man would be an extraordinary witness telling others what God had done. Jesus returned to Galilee but left this man behind to witness throughout the region. While the townspeople sent Jesus away, the restored man stayed and became a disciple maker.

A man who was once alone was healed and given a purpose greater than himself. Jesus’ encounter with the demon-possessed man was no accident. Jesus planned to save this man and use him to save others. How often has the Lord transformed people and used them to lead others into the Kingdom of God? How many people seem helpless, and all they need is an encounter with Jesus?

Just as Jesus stepped into the mess of this man’s life, He can step into your life. How many people did this man tell about Jesus, resulting in more changed lives? What situation in life has you bound that Jesus wants to set you free from? Whatever the problem is, the Lord can set you free, redeem, release, and restore you to your life so you fulfill God’s plans. Like this man, the Lord can use your restoration story to tell others what Jesus has done for you.
