Revelation While Seeking Jesus

The Wise Men experienced a revelation while seeking Jesus as they prepared to return home after their long journey to Bethlehem. The Wise Men had traveled from the east, in the region of Persia, as God stirred their hearts. Then God provided a star as a sign to guide them, like an ancient GPS.

When the Wise Men arrived in Jerusalem to worship the newborn King of the Jews, they were surprised that the capital of the Jewish faith was unaware of what God was doing. King Herod was disturbed at the potential arrival of this newborn king spoken of by the Wise Men. He quickly summoned the leading priests and teachers of the law. Matthew 2:4“Where is the Messiah supposed to be born, Herod asked. “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they said.[1] Herod then sent the Wise Men on their way. He lied by telling them to return when they found the child so he could worship Him as well.

God Gives Revelation for a Reason

As we navigate life, we may not see the dangers ahead or realize we need wisdom. But in God’s mercy, He intervenes in our lives because He loves us. God had a plan for the Wise Men, and He also had a plan for His Son, Jesus. To ensure Jesus could be the Savior of the world, He needed protection, so God gave the Wise Men a critical dream.

Matthew 2:12 When it was time to leave, they returned to their own country by another route, for God had warned them in a dream not to return to Herod. [2] As the Wise Men reflected on their journey, they must have been amazed at how God worked in their lives. From the star that guided them, to the gifts they brought, to seeing the newborn, and now, a dream from God must have transformed their lives. This is the last time Scripture mentions the Wise Men. But, there is much we can learn from these courageous men.

Revelation While Seeking Jesus Today

God, in His mercy, continues to give revelation as we seek Him in worship today. A friend came to celebrate Easter Sunday with his wife, during which God revealed to him his need to ask Jesus into his heart. This revelation came as a surprise, but so moved by the Lord’s insight, he confessed his sins and asked Jesus to be his Savior.

God is the divine intruder, and as we worship Him, He often gives us dreams, insights, and visions that change our lives. Perhaps there is someone we need to forgive or a sin we need to confess, and during worship the Lord reveals what we should do. Like the Wise Men, we have free will, but when we act on God’s revelation, He transforms our lives.

If we are open to making changes in our lives, the Lord often gives timely insight that shows how much he cares for us. Proverbs 2:6For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding. [3] Do you desire revelation from God? The wise men received revelation while seeking Jesus. As you worship, pray to the Lord for revelation, and don’t be surprised when He answers. To learn more, listen here:
