God Gives Wisdom

God gives wisdom, which is something for which we need to be thankful. The Scriptures tell us our Heavenly Father is wise, and everything He does is flawless. We have access to His wisdom through His word and the Holy Spirit. James 1:5 If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.[1]

Our Father is the Good Shepherd and is waiting for us to pray so He can grant wisdom to us. But to seek the Lord’s wisdom, we must humbly seek Him as we pray, and when we do, He will answer. The Lord reveals what kind of wisdom He gives. James 3:17 But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere.[2] God will give us godly wisdom and help us use it appropriately. What circumstance are you facing that the Lord wants you to seek Him for godly wisdom?

Not Everyone Seeks Godly Wisdom

Seeking wisdom from the dark side is nothing new in human history. In Daniel, chapter five, King Belshazzar of Babylon gave a great feast with much drinking. In the middle of the banquet, the king mocked God when he ordered gold cups taken from the Temple in Jerusalem to be brought to the banquet. Then, the king, his nobles, and his concubines drank from them as they praised their idols.

Daniel 5:Suddenly, they saw the fingers of a human hand writing on the plaster wall of the king’s palace, near the lampstand. The king himself saw the hand as it wrote, and his face turned pale with fright.[3] The king was shaking in fear but did not humble himself before the Lord. Instead, he called on his pagan enchanters, astrologers, and fortune tellers.

Daniel 5:But when all the king’s wise men had come in, none of them could read the writing or tell him what it meant.[4] When people seek wisdom from the dark side, they open doors for the enemy to attack them. For King Belshazzar, God’s patience had run out, and that very night, his enemies murdered him as they conquered the kingdom.

The Benefits of Choosing Godly Wisdom

We gain a deeper knowledge and understanding as we seek the Lord’s wisdom. (Ref. Proverbs 2:4-6.) Having a relationship with God and seeking His wisdom changes our perception as life’s circumstances unfold. Looking at our circumstances through a Biblical lens changes how we respond.

Unfortunately, Godly wisdom does not happen independently, but when we look up to the Lord and seek Him. Paul tells us God has a plan for our life, and when we let the Lord guide us, He will direct and lead us to fulfill His amazing plans. Romans 12: Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.[5]
