Daniel had been fasting and seeking the Lord. He had no idea that a battle in the spiritual realm had been blocking God’s answer. God was using exile to turn His people back to Him. Daniel was a prophet for God and spoke His Words to the people. But there was an enemy that wanted …
God communicates through dreams throughout Scripture. Joseph in the Old Testament not only had dreams but also had the gift of interpreting dreams for others. Genesis 40: 8 And they replied, “We both had dreams last night, but no one can tell us what they mean.” “Interpreting dreams is God’s business,” Joseph replied. “Go ahead and …
Even when we ignore Him, God’s judgment comes. Belshazzar had mocked God and thought the city defenses would keep them safe. Their enemies diverted the Euphrates River and entered the city under the gates.[1] The enemy came into the banquet hall and killed the king. Daniel 5: 30 That very night Belshazzar, the Babylonian king, was …
The consequences of pride are seen through history and in our own lives. Sometimes, failure awakens us to our arrogant behavior. Pride is often easy for others to see, but we can be blind to it. It can be subtle, creep up on us, and run us over. One of the greatest dangers of pride …
Are you teachable? I think we all want to answer yes to this question. Unfortunately, Belshazzar didn’t seem to want to be teachable. He had called Daniel in an effort to find someone to interpret God’s writing on the wall. But before his interpretation, Daniel preached a sermon. He used the king’s ancestor, Nebuchadnezzar, as …
Godly wisdom is not for sale because the Lord gives it to us freely. Worldly people buy and sell things daily, but God is generous. James 1:5If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.”[1] While an attorney will charge you for …
Daniel was the forgotten servant of God. It took the queen mother to remind King Belshazzar that Daniel was full of God’s wisdom. This incident began when King Belshazzar held a great feast where he drank wine with his nobles, wives, and concubines. While consuming wine, the king ordered that gold cups taken from the …
God gives wisdom, which is something for which we need to be thankful. The Scriptures tell us our Heavenly Father is wise, and everything He does is flawless. We have access to His wisdom through His word and the Holy Spirit. James 1:5 If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give …
We can see that mocking God has consequences from the story of Daniel and the handwriting on the wall. The king in the story, Belshazzar, ruled over the city of Babylon while his father ruled over the empire. The city was full of idols. “There were in Babylon 53 temples to honor the major deities, …
Our church has a tradition at Easter, the pastor will announce, “He is risen!” And the congregation will respond “He is risen, indeed!” In the middle of this pandemic and “safer at home” this tradition won’t happen this year, BUT Christ is still risen! Our inability to gather doesn’t change the fact. Christ came as …
