The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

How does it feel to know that our God knew you before you were even conceived? Before we were even born, the Lord had devised an awesome plan for our life. As the Lord calls Jeremiah to be a prophet He gives him this message. Jer. 1:5“I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.” [1]

Psalm 139 also gives more insight into God knowing us. Psalm 139:13 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. 15 You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. 16 You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. [2]

As we read these words from the Scriptures, it paints a picture of a loving God who is interested in the smallest detail of our lives. It paints a picture of a God who is a loving Father and Mother all rolled into one. There is no one who is more interested in you and loves you more than our Lord.

Just at the right time in the history of Judah (the Southern Kingdom of Israel), God enabled Jeremiah to be born. Jeremiah was be born at the right place, at the right time, to the right parents to carry out God’s plans for His life. Although God has plans for each of our lives, He has also given us free will. We are free to follow a loving God or turn away from Him and do our own thing.

God’s plan for Jeremiah was to be a prophet. What are God’s plans for your life? How do you find out about them? God does not want His plans for your life to be a mystery. These are some things I have learned over time from God’s word and personal experience.

  • If you are interested in knowing God’s plan for your life, then you must learn to walk with God. You need to develop a relationship with Him by spending time with Him in prayer, worship, and His word. Being a follower of Jesus is all about relationship.
  • Many times, when we say we say are seeking God’s will, what we are really doing is telling God what we want to do. Our prayer may be: “OK, God, here’s what I’m planning to do, please bless it.” (I have done this myself and this I have found does not work.)  Before God will begin to reveal His will to you, you must be committed to doing whatever it is that He desires for you to do. God will likely be slow to show you His plan if He knows you are not apt to obey.
  • Obey what you already know to be God’s will. God won’t give us more if we don’t do what He has already given us.
  • Listen to the still small voice of the Holy Spirit.

When you truly seek the Lord don’t be surprised when God begins to give you guidance, direction and wisdom like you have never had before.
