The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

A few words for our mothers | Growing the Good Life

When I was a small child, I loved when my mother would read me Bible stories. These stories would draw me into them like I was there, and it was my first introduction to Jesus. As an adult, I realized that there was more at work there than just my mother reading; it was the work of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit was opening my heart and drawing me to Jesus even when I was not aware of it.

How does Jesus Draw Nicodemus?

Nicodemus is drawn to Jesus and comes to him one evening. John 3:1There was a man named Nicodemus, a Jewish religious leader who was a Pharisee. After dark one evening, he came to speak with Jesus. “Rabbi,” he said, “we all know that God has sent you to teach us. Your miraculous signs are evidence that God is with you.” [1]

What does this story teach us about the Lord and Nicodemus? Nicodemus had observed miracles only God could do. The Holy Spirit worked through these miracles to draw Nicodemus to Jesus.  Nicodemus could have resisted what God was showing him through the power of the Holy Spirit, but he did not. Think of what he would have missed in his life both on earth and in eternity if he would have resisted the Holy Spirit.

We have the free will to resist and quench the Holy Spirit. To resist the Holy Spirit is to rebel and to quench is to stop or stifle the work of the Holy Spirit. The actions of Nicodemus show a heart that was open to God. Although he was an adult, he was still moldable and teachable. By responding to the work of the Holy Spirit, Nicodemus had an encounter with Jesus which transformed his life.

How has Jesus drawn you to Himself?

Our Lord Jesus wants to you to encounter Him! He wants to draw you to Himself and to reveal things to you. Jesus wants to open doors for you only He could open. He wants to give you hope and peace so you can rise above the waves of life.

Ask the Lord in prayer to be drawn closer to Him. We read in James 4:8, Come close to God, and God will come close to you. [2] Jesus wants to change your life with a fresh encounter with Him.
