The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Stepping out in faith must be led by the Lord. It is a time when we learn through experience. Why would stepping out in faith be so important in our faith development? When Mary was a young woman the angel Gabriel came and visited her with amazing news. As you read this pretend that you are Mary. Think about what the angel is saying and how that would stretch your faith.

Luke 1:30 “Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her, “for you have found favor with God! 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. 32 He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. 33 And he will reign over Israel forever; his Kingdom will never end!” [1]

Mary Trusted the Lord and Moved Forward in Faith

Luke 1:38 Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.” And then the angel left her. [2] Becoming the mother of Jesus would continue to stretch Mary the rest of her life. She would experience what the world would call an out of wedlock pregnancy. She would wonder at Jesus’ ministry and mourn His death on the cross. Yet she would witness His resurrection, and the beginning of the early church. As you reflect on all the Lord would let Mary experience in her life you begin to realize spiritual stretching is a lifelong occurrence.

Is the Lord Prompting You to Step out in Faith?

The greatest experiences of my life have occurred when the Lord stretched me to grow in faith. As I reflect on those experiences, I can see the Lord leading me a little further each time. Like climbing a ladder, you don’t start in the middle, but at the beginning. Being stretched by the Lord is like climbing the ladder of faith one rung at a time.

Peter was a person of faith before the Lord called Him to be a fisher of people. The Apostle Paul was a believer for many years before the Lord called him to go on missionary journeys. The Lord knows when we are ready for the next step of faith before we do.

With God’s Help, You Too, Can Step Forward in Faith

Some people may hear God’s call to move forward in faith and refuse to do. They will miss what God had for them. For any of us it is easier to play in the shallows than to go into the deep. With God’s help we can have the courage and strength to follow the Lord.

Philippians 4:13 For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. [3] Let the Lord open your eyes for what He has for you. Be ready to seek and embrace the Lord’s plans for your life just like Mary did. With God’s help you also can take the next step of faith!
