The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

The Lord involves you in His ministry, which is a gift and a fantastic privilege. People learn best by doing, and the Lord involves us not because He needs our help but because we need to mature in the faith.

I was an adult before I realized the importance of being involved in the Christian faith and how much I learned by doing so. At this time, I also realized it was a gift from the Lord to work in His Kingdom. Similarly, I grew up on a farm, and as a boy, my father would have little jobs for me to do, although it would have been easier for him to do them himself. Although my jobs were small at that age, I learned the basics about our farm. As we are involved in God’s work on this earth, we also gain insight into His work.

The Lord Involved the Disciples

Jesus spent three years with His disciples, teaching them and involving them in His ministry. Like us today, He did not need their help but was equipping them for the ministry ahead of them. After Jesus ascended into heaven, He would no longer be on earth physically, so the disciples’ training with Him was necessary. In our story, Jesus involved the disciples in what you would call a small but necessary task.

Matthew 21:1b Jesus sent two of them on ahead. “Go into the village over there,” he said. “As soon as you enter it, you will see a donkey tied there, with its colt beside it. Untie them and bring them to me…The two disciples did as Jesus commanded. They brought the donkey and the colt to him and threw their garments over the colt, and he sat on it. [1]

The disciples learned to trust and obey Jesus through this simple task, even in a minor assignment such as getting a donkey. As the Lord trains us in His Kingdom, many of His tasks seem small, but they all have a purpose and are essential.

The Lord Wants to Involve You

Incredibly, the creator of the universe wants to have a relationship with us and involve us in His work. As we consider serving in the Kingdom of God a privilege, it changes our perspective.

During the week Jesus was crucified, He took time to wash the feet of the disciples to demonstrate to them the importance of servanthood. The creator of the universe wants to have a relationship with us and involve us in His work. As we consider serving in the Kingdom of God a privilege, it changes our perspective. Jesus showed them that true greatness is in serving, and we discover the truth of His words as we serve.
