The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Our world is always changing, and it is of great comfort to every person with faith in Jesus that God doesn’t change. James 1:17 Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.[1]

Change is always part of our lives, whether we are growing up as a child or in the continued seasons of our lives. Today, you may be young and vibrant, but youth is fleeting, and suddenly, you look like your parents when they were old. Because God does not change, we can find great comfort in His word as He tells us about His love for us and plans for our lives.

No matter what situation I find myself in, I always have hope of eternal life and that God will write every wrong. Our sinful world is like a ship in a great storm, and we like to grab onto things to steady our journey. In the storms of life, I have found the only constant is the Lord, who is like an immovable rock. The Lord is undaunted by our unfaithfulness as He remains faithful like a spiritual lighthouse.

God Chooses to Give You Birth

How does God give birth to us? James 1:18 He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his prized possession. [2] When James writes about birth, he is talking about spiritual birth. We are born again when we place our faith in Jesus as our Savior. When we become people of faith, the Holy Spirit comes and lives inside us.

Jesus gave Nicodemus, a Jewish religious leader, insight into being born again. John 3:Jesus replied, “I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life. So don’t be surprised when I say, ‘You must be born again.’[3]

To be born again is to have spiritual life, which also entails eternal life in heaven. Jesus further explains the connection between being born spiritually and being a child of God. John 1:12 But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. 13 They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God. [4]

We are God’s Prized Possession

After our children were born, it showed me how important they are compared to any riches, fame, or power you could accumulate. In a spiritual sense, you are the Lord’s prize possession because you are His children, the sheep of His pasture. The Lord created you and called you to faith so you could be adopted into His family. What an amazing God we have!
