The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

God initiated love toward us is the story of our creator and us, His children. As the pages of the Bible unfolds, we find that our Lord is the God of love, creation, intervention, and hope. The Lord’s love for us is deeper than the oceans and higher than any mountain.

For God to create humankind was a risk because He gave us free will. He loved us, but we were free to love or not love our creator. It must have hurt His feelings when Adam and Eve fell into sin, although we don’t often think of God’s reaction that way. After Adam and Eve sinned, God came to where they were like a concerned parent.

Genesis 3:When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard the Lord God walking about in the garden. So they hid from the Lord God among the trees.[1]

The Lord Walks with Us

The Bible does not say if God walked with Adam and Eve daily, but we can surmise that a loving God would have taken great pleasure walking with His children. To walk with God implies closeness, intimacy, and loving fellowship. God walks with us when we are on the right path and walks alongside us when we are headed in the wrong direction to redirect us. Often, in our most desperate times, struggles, and times of fear, we find the Lord has been as close as a mother with an infant.

We can pray that the Lord would walk alongside us, but where does such a prayer originate? I believe that prayer would arise with the Holy Spirit. Long before Adam and Eve fell into sin, the Lord planned to rescue those He had created. Ephesians 1:Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.[2]

God Sent His Son

How much does God love you? You may feel unloved, and no one loves you, but that is untrue. 1 John 4:God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. 10 This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. [3]

Meditating on those verses makes you feel better knowing someone cares for you that much. When I feel loved, it opens the door for me to love God and others. To love others is a fruit of our relationship with the Lord. As a parent, I would gladly give up my life for my children, and the love Jesus has for us is much greater than the love I have.

As His child, you are never out of His sight or mind. He knows your pain, your joys, and your needs. He is the lamp that lights our way and sends His Holy Spirit to live in us. Everything the Lord does for and with us is because He loves us. Wow! I just love thinking about that kind of love. To learn more about God initiated love, listen here:
