The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

We often think we will get away with things, but ultimately, we reap what we sow. What if people took to heart the words Paul wrote? Galatians 6:7Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant.[1]

Our enemy, satan, loves to deceive and mislead us. He is like a magician making people think the opposite of reality. We have a choice in how we spend our lives, and the world tells us to build our fortunes because life is all about us. Unfortunately, those who listen to the voice of the world climb the wrong ladder of life. First, the Lord wants our heart to be good soil or to receive and allow His word to grow. Then, the Lord wants us to spend time sowing seeds that build the Kingdom of God.

When the Harvest Comes In

Haman, the second in command to King Xerxes of Persia, was a man of low character who placed all hope in his fortune and political position. When Mordecai, a low-level government official, would not bow down to him, Haman decided to do something about it. Because Mordecai was a Jew, Haman developed a plan to kill him and all Jews in the Persian empire.

Haman informed the king that a certain group of people in the empire did not keep the king’s laws and that they should all be killed. With little concern for this people group, the king agreed and allowed an edict to carry it out.

The Jewish people in the empire began to fast for God’s intervention. The Queen of Persia was also Jewish and, ironically, had been raised by Mordecai. She was able to intercede on behalf of the Jewish people. Instead of Mordecai and the Jewish people dying, Hamman died as God answered the intercession of the Jews.

Esther 7:Then Harbona, one of the king’s eunuchs, said, “Haman has set up a sharpened pole that stands seventy-five feet tall in his own courtyard. He intended to use it to impale Mordecai, the man who saved the king from assassination.” “Then impale Haman on it!” the king ordered. 10 So they impaled Haman on the pole he had set up for Mordecai, and the king’s anger subsided.[2]

You Can Be Good Soil

You reap what you sow, which can be for evil or good. Do you want to be good soil? As believers in Jesus, the Holy Spirit lives in you, and you have the privilege of being directed by God. How we respond to His voice will determine our life’s direction. To partner with God is to cooperate with the Holy Spirit.

When we sow to please the Holy Spirit, we will do our work in this life out of love for God and our neighbors. God enables us to bear spiritual fruit as we respond to the Holy Spirit’s guidance. When we are generous with what God gives us, it transforms us and makes a difference in the lives of others.
