When we seek Jesus’ face, not His hands, it moves us from our physical needs to putting our spiritual needs first. Jesus teaches wisdom. Matthew 6:33Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.[1]
As we seek the Lord’s face and His Kingdom, we seek His presence, truth, and who God is. To seek the Lord’s hand is to pursue our desires for His provision before our relationship with Him. Although our physical needs are important, our spiritual needs are more significant. We don’t have eternal life without faith in Jesus as our Savior. To have all our physical needs met and live without faith is to miss the most important thing the Lord has for us.
Seeking Jesus For the Wrong Reason
After several days in Samaria, where many people came to faith, Jesus headed to Galilee. John 4:44 Jesus himself had said that a prophet is not honored in his own hometown. 45 Yet the Galileans welcomed him, for they had been in Jerusalem at the Passover celebration and had seen everything he did there. [2]
At the Passover Feast, many people saw Jesus’ miracles and believed. But was it true faith? Jesus gives us further insight. John 4:24 But Jesus didn’t trust them because he knew all about people. 25 No one needed to tell him about human nature, for he knew what was in each person’s heart. [3] The people believed in Jesus as someone who performed miracles, but not necessarily as the Messiah who came to save them from their sins.
Seeking the Lord’s Face
The Lord loves when we genuinely seek Him to build our relationship with Him and commands us to do. Psalm 27:8You have said, “Seek my face.” My heart says to you, “Your face, Lord, do I seek. [4] The Lord desires that we seek his face to grow in intimacy with Him. If we seek only the Lord’s hand, we tend to stop once Jesus meets that need.
Our Savior longs for a personal relationship with you and to reveal Himself to you. The Lord desires that we move beyond knowing about Him to knowing Him in our hearts. When we seek the Lord with all our hearts, He begins to transform us.
The circumstances we face may seem like a mountain, but all this becomes small compared to experiencing a close relationship with the Lord. When we face trials of life as we seek the Lord’s face, it puts everything in perspective and relieves our pain and worry. When we seek God’s face, He reveals Himself in ways we would never imagine as we grow in our relationship with Him.
