The God who makes the impossible possible is shown in the lives of people in the Bible and our world today. While it is encouraging to read stories of others, you might wonder: Will God do the impossible in my life? It is always God’s work in our lives that draws people to Him or makes a miracle possible.
At my mother’s funeral, I concluded the message with a call for salvation. With every head bowed and eyes closed, I asked people to raise their hands if they wanted to place their faith in Jesus or rededicate their lives to the Lord. Only a handful of people raised their hands, and then, from the back of the church, a wave of hands began to rise, moving from the back to the front. Only God could orchestrate a wave like that, showing it was the work of the Holy Spirit leading people to faith.
Will I Choose Salvation, or Wealth?
Idols come in many forms, and often overlooked is the idea that wealth can serve as both an idol and an obstacle in our faith journey. Luke 18: 20 But to answer your question, you know the commandments: ‘You must not commit adultery. You must not murder, you must not steal. You must not testify falsely. Honor your father and mother.’”
21 The man replied, “I’ve obeyed all these commandments since I was young.” [1]
When Jesus heard his response, He indicated there was one thing he had not done. Sell everything you have and give it to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me. Because the man was rich, he went away sad. As the man left, Jesus told the disciples how difficult it was for rich people to enter the Kingdom of God. It was so hard that Jesus said it would be like a camel going through the eye of a needle. When a person has an abundance of physical wealth, it is often difficult for them to recognize their need for God.
God Makes the Impossible Possible
As the disciples pondered the difficulty of wealthy people coming to faith, they posed a serious question to Jesus. Luke 18: 26 Those who heard this said, “Then who in the world can be saved?” 27 He replied, “What is impossible for people is possible with God.” [2]
We can’t earn our way to God or overcome sin by willpower. Divine power begins where human strength ends. God’s ability isn’t limited by our weaknesses or failures—spiritual, emotional, or practical. In hopeless situations or facing personal failures, remember: the same God who created the universe, parted the Red Sea, raised the dead, and defeated sin and death can make the impossible possible. He can save, heal, and redeem what seems irredeemable. Our role is to trust in Him, surrendering our limits to His unlimited power.
