Have you ever made a wrong turn while driving and the GPS said, “recalculating?” As we pick up our story today this is what happened to Elijah the prophet of God.
15 The Lord said to him, “Go back the way you came, and go to the Desert of Damascus. When you get there, anoint Hazael king over Aram. 16 Also, anoint Jehu son of Nimshi king over Israel, and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat from Abel Meholah to succeed you as prophet. 1 Kings 19:15-16
Often when we are lost, we need to go back to the last place we knew was correct. In our story the Lord was directing Elijah to go back so he could be in the right place to carry out the Lord’s ministry.
Do you sense from the Lord that you are lost, or you are not where you should be? Is the Lord asking you to go back the way you came so you can get back on the spiritual trail He has for you? Take comfort in the fact that the Lord loves when his children come to Him when they are lost. This allows Him to guide them back to the flock.
The watchman opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. John 10:3
