Sometimes we may struggle with not being loved. When my grandmother died, my father told my mother, “I don’t know if my mother ever loved me.” Wow! My father did experience the love of Jesus in His life and that changed everything for him. He always had a great love for each of us in our family. Maybe you grew up in a home like my father. The good news is there is not a moment that goes by that our heavenly Father is not thinking of us and how much he loves us.
In our text about the Tower of Babel in Genesis 11, I don’t think the people realized how much God loved them. They were deceived by satan and their sinful nature.
The prophet Isaiah says, “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. 9 For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9 [1] We have a tendency to believe the Lord thinks like we do, but nothing could be further from the truth.
As Jesus walked to the cross almost 2000 years ago, He was not only thinking about the cross ahead, but of you. Jesus knew the only way to rescue us was for all of our sins to be poured out upon Him. We can’t begin to imagine the pain of our sins being poured out upon Jesus. The Apostle Paul writes in Philippians 2:8, “Jesus humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.” [2]
We read in 1 Peter 2:24-25 – He himself carried our sin in his body on the cross so that we would be dead to sin and live for righteousness. Our instant healing flowed from his wounding. 25 You were like sheep that continually wandered away but now you have returned to the true Shepherd of your lives—the kind Guardian who lovingly watches over your souls.3
When we reflect on the verses from 1 Peter, we begin to realize the love the Lord has for us. This is a love that is greater than anything we could ever imagine. Take time today just to think about how much the Lord loves you. Also, take time and thank the Lord. He is so good to us.
