The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Today’s Scripture & Insight: 1 Cor. 2:9

Have you ever thought about eternity? Life on earth has a beginning, middle and an end, but eternity goes on forever. That is hard to get our minds around. While life on earth maybe very short in comparison, what we do on earth impacts where we will spend all eternity. This is the ultimate pass or fail test. Pass and we go to heaven or fail you end up separated from God in a place described as hell.

The Apostle Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 2:9 “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” [1] Wow, that is something to ponder on for a while. Heaven is so good we can’t even begin to imagine how good it is. I would also say hell is just as bad in the opposite direction.

The prophet Isaiah spoke about the coming Messiah who would be born as a child. His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity. The passionate commitment of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies will make this happen! [2] Isaiah 9:7.

We know the Messiah to be Jesus as revealed in the New Testament. His government and peace will never end, and He will be on the throne of His ancestor David forever. Jesus will rule for all eternity. There will be no end of His term in office.

If you started living your life with one eye on eternity, how would it change? Change is difficult and the Lord knows that. Paul writes in Philippians 4:13, “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.[3] We don’t have the strength to do what the Lord calls us to do, but He does. As we pray and ask the Lord, He will help us change and transform us.

Think about what the Lord could do through you as you ask Him to help you live your life with an eye on eternity.
