The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

After Adam and Eve fell into si,n the Lord made them a promise that He would send a Savior. I will make you and your brood enemies of the woman and all her children; The woman’s child will stomp your head, and you will strike his heel.Genesis 3:15. This child would come thousands of years later and be born of Mary and named Jesus. Listed below are just some of the prophecies in the Old Testament that tell about the coming of Jesus.

Isaiah 7:14 – All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’).[1]

Micah 5:2 – But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, are only a small village among all the people of Judah. Yet a ruler of Israel whose origins are in the distant past, will come from you on my behalf. [2]

Isaiah 35:5-6 – And when he comes, he will open the eyes of the blind and unplug the ears of the deaf. The lame will leap like a deer, and those who cannot speak will sing for joy! Springs will gush forth in the wilderness, and streams will water the wasteland. [3]

As we look at the Old Testament, God’s people waited centuries upon centuries for the Savior to be born. As the angel Gabriel visits Mary, He indicates that Messiah is about to enter the world, and Mary would be the child’s mother.

Luke 2:30-33 –“Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her, “for you have found favor with God! 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. 32 He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. 33 And he will reign over Israel forever; his Kingdom will never end!” [4]

Wow! What a blessing Mary would receive by being the mother who would give birth to the long-awaited Messiah. This Messiah would come just at the right time to rescue mankind. Galatians 4:4-5, But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children.[5]

Take time and give thanks to the Lord for sending His Son Jesus into the world to call you to faith and rescue you from eternal separation from His Father. Wow! Merry Christmas!
