Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

In this week’s story, David, with God’s strength, proves he is the real champion, not Goliath. In our lives, Jesus is our Champion. Matt. 4: 16 You who spend your days shrouded in darkness can now say, “We have seen a brilliant Light.” And those who live in the dark shadow land of death can now say, “The Dawning Light arises on us.” 17 From that time on Jesus began to proclaim his message with these words: “Keep turning away from your sins and come back to God, for heaven’s kingdom realm is now accessible.”[1]

There was a battle between David and Goliath and there was a showdown between Jesus and satan at the cross of Calvary. Jesus won by giving His life as a sacrifice to rescue us. Goliath is downed by a stone in just a few minutes. Jesus’ last words from the cross were, John 19:30It is finished.[2] He had won the victory. In Psalm 9, David reflects on how God is his champion because he knows it is God who won the victory. Ps. 9: For when you appear, I worship while all of my enemies run in retreat. They stumble and perish before your presence.[3]

Sometimes we all struggle amid the battle of life. We struggle to remember God is faithful and that the Lord, like David, is our champion. We may even struggle with our relationship with God and how to fully trust Him. All of us are a work in progress and need the Lord’s help and the encouragement of each other along the way.
