The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Psalm 34:17 | Scripture verses, Psalm 34 17, Psalms

When our children were young, and my wife had to work in the evening, it was up to me to hear the cries of our children when they were in bed. When my wife was home, I slept much sounder, but when she wasn’t, I had to be much more tuned into their cries. The good news is the Lord is always tuned into our cries. There is not a moment of our life when we are out of his thoughts and his watchful eye.

Psalm 34:17-19 – The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. 18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. 19 The righteous person faces many troubles, but the Lord comes to the rescue each time. [1]

God hears our cry for help regardless of how we feel. His ears are open to us. And, according to Psalm 34, not only does God hear us, He delivers us out of ALL our troubles.

Like Hebrew people in captivity, the Lord heard their cries. 23 Years passed, and the king of Egypt died. But the Israelites continued to groan under their burden of slavery. They cried out for help, and their cry rose up to God. 24 God heard their groaning, and he remembered his covenant promise to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. 25 He looked down on the people of Israel and knew it was time to act. [2] Exodus 2:23-25.

If you’re like me, you probably wonder, why the hardships? Why the struggle? Why so much pressure? Every trial we face produces life and reveals a greater revelation of who God is. When we abandon our will and pray “your will be done” and when we surrender our lives completely to God, He takes us on an awesome adventure. An adventure that at times proves difficult, but one that produces a revelation of God’s amazing grace and power. I have a saying; God will take you places you never thought you would go and enable you to do things you never thought were possible.

Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don’t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way.[3] James 1:2-4

PRAYER: Heavenly Father you are our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. (Ref. Psalm 46:1). Thank You that You really do hear our prayers. Today I need your help. Deliver me. Provide for me. Grant me Your favor. Fill me with Your power. Give me Your wisdom. Mold me. Provide the resources and strength to do all You have called me to do! Help me Lord to look up and focus on you. In Jesus name. Amen.
