In the world in which we live people can become prisoners in different ways. A person can be held captive by drugs, alcohol, fear, anxiety, or politically. Some people are in a prison in a literal sense because they broke the law. The good news is that no matter the situation, the Lord Jesus has come to set you free.
One of my friends was involved in prison ministry and met a man who was in jail for life. This man had become a very wealthy on the outside because of his criminal enterprises. That all ended with a life sentence. During his life sentence, he came to know Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior. His whole life began to change, and he now is leading other prisoners to Jesus and discipling them. He told my friend that even though he was in prison, he had never been as free or happy as he is now. In prison Jesus set him free.
7 For when we died with Christ, we were set free from the power of sin. 8 And since we died with Christ, we know we will also live with him. 9 We are sure of this because Christ was raised from the dead, and he will never die again. Death no longer has any power over him. 10 When he died, he died once to break the power of sin. But now that he lives, he lives for the glory of God. 11 So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus. [1] Romans 6:7-11
36 So if the Son (Jesus) sets you free, you are truly free. [2]John 8:36
In our story the Lord sent Moses to free the people from slavery in Egypt.
After this presentation to Israel’s leaders, Moses and Aaron went and spoke to Pharaoh. They told him, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: Let my people go so they may hold a festival in my honor in the wilderness.”[3] Exodus 5:1
God did hear the prayers of His children who were slaves in Egypt, and He would set them free in a very supernatural way.
How about you? Would you like the Lord to set you free of something that is holding you captive? Cry out the Lord in prayer! When we confess our sins to God and ask to be forgiven, He sets us free. If you are captured by an addiction help from Jesus is only a prayer away.
