The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Devotions Archives - Christ Church

Have you ever looked up at the stars on a very dark night and observed the Milky Way? If you have, it is amazing! Have you ever held a baby and marveled at the tiny hands, feet, and eyes? Has the Lord answered one of your prayer requests and you marveled at what God did? Our God is an amazing God. There aren’t enough books in existence to tell of all His works.

Then the prophet Nehemiah said, “O Lord, God of heaven, the great and awesome God who keeps his covenant of unfailing love with those who love him and obey his commands.[1] Nehemiah 1:5.

Moses had questioned God when the request to Pharaoh backfired. Instead of being better off than before the request, life was even more miserable for the Hebrew slaves. And now they were turning against Moses and Aaron. 19 The Israelite foremen could see that they were in serious trouble when they were told, “You must not reduce the number of bricks you make each day.” 20 As they left Pharaoh’s court, they confronted Moses and Aaron, who were waiting outside for them. 21 The foremen said to them, “May the Lord judge and punish you for making us stink before Pharaoh and his officials. You have put a sword into their hands, an excuse to kill us!”

22 Then Moses went back to the Lord and protested, “Why have you brought all this trouble on your own people, Lord? Why did you send me? 23 Ever since I came to Pharaoh as your spokesman, he has been even more brutal to your people. And you have done nothing to rescue them!”

Then the Lord told Moses, “Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh. When he feels the force of my strong hand, he will let the people go. In fact, he will force them to leave his land!”[2] Exodus 5:19 – 6:1.

God gave Moses an unexpected response. He revealed the next part of His plan. The Lord often works to reveal His plan in tiny bits. He does not reveal His entire plan to us at one time, or it would overwhelm us. People have free will and God adjusts His plan accordingly. God is all knowing, but He gives people free will to make both good and bad choices. Pharaoh made a bad choice because his heart was hard. God knew that, but He waited until after Pharaoh made that decision before He revealed His next step to Moses.

Wow! God is awesome! Take time to reflect on all the amazing things God has done and is doing in your life. It is also a time to be thankful for such a faithful God. Praise and thankful worship build our faith as we do it.

10 Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. [3] Isaiah 41:10.

When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers— the moon and the stars you set in place— what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should are for them? Yet you made them only a little lower than God and crowned them with glory and honor. [4] Psalm 8:3-5
