As people we want to go our own way and direct our own path, yet when we choose that road, we find ourselves pursuing an empty life. Maybe you have done that in life or are in the midst of that journey now. The good news is that God has a better way and a better plan. The Lord wants to lead you on a journey that will lead you to heaven itself. Wow! I’m all for ending up in heaven which is a place that is wondrous beyond my imagination.

Abram, later renamed by God as Abraham, was on his own journey in life, but then something happened that changed everything. God intervened. God broke into the life of Abraham and redirected his path to what God’s plan was for his life. In Genesis 12:1, “The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you.”[1] God was calling Abram to make a big change in his life and that meant leaving his family and his home and going to someplace far away he had never been before. God would show him where to go, but to get there he had to trust God. Abraham did trust God and his life changed for the better beyond anything he could imagine.

Sometimes we can get lost along our journey of life. Sometimes we like to try our plan first before figuring out it was not a good one. Sometimes we have to come to the end of ourselves before we give into God’s path. Although we maybe on the wrong path, the Lord will continue to call us back like a loving shepherd.

If you are lost, cry out to God in prayer and admit your sinfulness to God. He is waiting now to hear your prayer and direct your path back where you need to be. It is never too late to come back to God. It is never too late to let our heavenly Father lead us to a path in life that is fulfilling and will lead us to heaven itself.
