As Abram obeyed God, he arrived in Canaan. Genesis 12:7 Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “I will give this land to your descendants.” And Abram built an altar there and dedicated it to the Lord, who had appeared to him. [1] Abram did not have to purchase the land, but it was going to be given to him by the Lord. There is no one who likes to give us gifts more than our heavenly Father.
What gifts does God give us? Wisdom when we ask, life, rain, victory through Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, peace, grace, a future, and His Son Jesus.
How does that make you feel when you begin to reflect on all the gifts the Lord continues to pour out on you? Does it make you feel thankful? Does it make you feel cared for? Does it make you realize how much the Lord loves and cares for you? How does this affect your image of God?
Giving is part of the very nature of who God is. There was no greater gift the Lord bestowed upon the world than to send Jesus into this world to die for our sins.
Billy Graham said this one Christmas. “While many of us both give and receive gifts during the Christmas season, God gave us a gift we will never be able to repay. In exchange for our sins and shame, God offered us eternal salvation by sending His son, Jesus Christ, to earth as our Savior. All we can do in return is accept this remarkable gift and pursue a relationship with the greatest gift-giver of all.”
Have you accepted God’s greatest gift into your life as your Savior? If you have not, take time to invite Jesus into your life. Below is a sinner’s prayer by Campus Crusade for Christ.
Lord Jesus, I need You. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life and receive You as my Savior and Lord. Thank You for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Take control of the throne of my life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be.
