Have you ever looked up at the stars at night, admired the intricate detail of a newborn baby, or the beauty of a flower and knew that only God could have created them? When God reveals Himself through nature as He puts His creation on display all around us. The Lord wants everyone to know Him and uses natural revelation as one way. He has given us Scripture so that we can know His character and what He wants for us. Our text today shows how He also reveals Himself in dreams and visions. The Lord wants everyone to know Him as Savior, so He uses many ways to call us to Himself. God gives Isaiah a supernatural vision as He calls him to the task of prophet.
Isaiah 6:1In the year that King Uzziah died, I clearly saw the Lord. He was seated on his exalted throne, towering high above me. His long, flowing robe of splendor spread throughout the temple. 2 Standing above him were the angels of flaming fire, each with six wings: with two wings they covered their faces in reverence, with two wings they covered their feet, and with two wings they flew.[1]
Isaiah was transported to the throne room of God. The awesomeness of God must have been overwhelming. Isaiah would have known about earthly kings. King Uzziah had lived out his last years in disgrace because he had been disobedient and as a result had leprosy. The heavenly king was nothing like that. God revealed how huge He was and how the heavenly beings revered Him. We, as sinful human beings, often want to bring God down to our size so we can understand Him. Isaiah understood how big and awesome God is from this vision.
As God reveals Himself to us, He tells us He is the creator of all things, how man fell into sin, the mercy of God, the love of God, and man’s need for a savior. Most importantly He tells us about His Son, Jesus. Jesus is revealed in the New Testament in God’s perfect timing where He came to earth to live a perfect life and give His life for us on the cross. On the cross Jesus paid the price for all of our sins. Jesus now extends to each person the gift of salvation and when we accept this gift, we become a believer in Jesus. To be a believer is to be a person who has placed their faith in Jesus as their Savior. The Holy Spirit comes to live within us and we become temples of the Most High God. Let the Lord fill you with His splendor as you become part of His kingdom.
