Have you ever been outside on a clear night and marveled at all the stars? With a telescope you can see even more. When we look at pictures from the Hubble telescope it shows us not only more stars, but billions of galaxies. What does this tell us about God? How was it possible for the Lord to make all of those stars? He certainly is a God of Abundance and the impossible.
Jesus, Lord of Abundance and the Impossible
In our story, thousands of people followed Jesus to the far side of the Sea of Galilee because they saw miraculous signs and He healed the sick. Jesus looked and saw one of their needs which was food. What would Jesus do? The text tells us Jesus decided to feed the people, but in a miraculous way.
John 6:7 Philip replied, “Even if we worked for months, we wouldn’t have enough money to feed them!” 8 Then Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up. 9 “There’s a young boy here with five barley loaves and two fish. But what good is that with this huge crowd?”
10 “Tell everyone to sit down,” Jesus said. So they all sat down on the grassy slopes. (The men alone numbered about 5,000.) 11 Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks to God, and distributed them to the people. Afterward he did the same with the fish. And they all ate as much as they wanted. 12 After everyone was full, Jesus told his disciples, “Now gather the leftovers, so that nothing is wasted.” 13 So they picked up the pieces and filled twelve baskets with scraps left by the people who had eaten from the five barley loaves. The Impossible and Abundant Life for Us
In this amazing miracle Jesus fed 5000 men plus women and children and had food left over. Our God is the God of abundance and the God of the impossible. If He can multiply five barley loaves and two fish, what can He do in your life that is abundant and impossible?
Matthew 19:26 Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.” [2]
Hebrews 6:18 tells us it is impossible for God to lie, and Hebrews 11:6 adds that without faith it is impossible for us to please Him. It demonstrates how important it is to place our impossibilities in God’s hands. It was impossible for the disciples to feed the 5000, but that was not true for God. Just as He fed the 5000 and parted the sea for Israel, God can reverse our irreversible problems.
What’s impossible in your life right now? What prayers for reversal are you praying that are in line with the will of God? Believe big! God is the God of abundance and the impossible!
