Have you ever noticed how the broken are drawn to Jesus? Perhaps you are the one who had been far from the Lord and He has drawn you back. What did the Lord teach you through that situation? How did that change you?
A few years ago, I remember seeing a man in church for the first time. He was about 60 years old and wearing a pair of gray sweatpants, but was thin and looked to be in rough physical shape. He moved slowly up the isle using his crutches before he sat down. Over time I got to know this man quite well.
When he was growing up his parents diligently brought him to worship and Sunday school, but after high school he drifted away from the Lord. He had a successful career, but at the cost of his own family. Due to his health his career was over. He was a broken man and after many years away from the Lord he was drawn back by the Holy Spirit. The prodigal had returned.
A Hurting Woman was Drawn to Jesus
Jesus had been invited to home of a Pharisee and there He would encounter a hurting woman who was seeking Him.
Luke 7:36 One of the Pharisees asked Jesus to have dinner with him, so Jesus went to his home and sat down to eat. 37 When a certain immoral woman from that city heard he was eating there, she brought a beautiful alabaster jar filled with expensive perfume. 38 Then she knelt behind him at his feet, weeping. Her tears fell on his feet, and she wiped them off with her hair. Then she kept kissing his feet and putting perfume on them. 39 When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would know what kind of woman is touching him. She’s a sinner!” [1]
What happened on that day that this woman felt moved to seek out Jesus? The Scriptures paint a picture of a woman desperate for Jesus’ love, compassion and forgiveness. It is the work of the Holy Spirit to draw us to Jesus, but we have free will to listen and obey His voice. This woman listened to the voice of the Holy Spirit and her life was forever changed.
Broken People can still Seek Jesus Today
Are you hurting today? Is the Holy Spirit moving on your heart to come to Jesus? No matter our condition, or what we have done the Lord wants you to come to Him. When we come to Jesus, we can humbly confess our sins and asked to be forgiven. There is no hurt or sin too large for the Lord to repair.
Matthew 11:28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” [2] To hear more about how the broken are drawn to Jesus, listen here: https://podpoint.com/light-of-christ-church-podcast/seeking-the-lord-changes-my-life-sinful-woman
