The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Pin on Spiritual Health

Have you ever felt a great burden on your shoulders? Perhaps you feel that way right now. The good news is that Jesus lifts my burden as I come to Him in prayer. Sometimes we think we can carry the heavy burdens of life, but over time we soon find out these burdens wear us down.

Jesus knows the burdens of life are difficult for us to carry. Matthew 11:28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light. [1]

How would your life be different right now if you were to give your burdens to Jesus? Like a good Father the Lord does not want His children to struggle. He prompts us to give our burdens to Him. There is no burden too big or too heavy for our Lord to carry.

The Lord Will Break the Yoke of Slavery

Isaiah, the prophet, writes about the coming Messiah who would break the yoke of slavery. Isaiah 9:For you will break the yoke of their slavery and lift the heavy burden from their shoulders. You will break the oppressor’s rod, just as you did when you destroyed the army of Midian. [2]

The Israelites were oppressed by the Midianites and the Lord sent Gideon to be their deliverer. In the Lord’s perfect timing, He sent His Son Jesus into this world to die for our sins that hold us captive. When Jesus came and died for our sins on the cross, He freed us from slavery to sin. Galatians 3:22But the Scriptures declare that we are all prisoners of sin, so we receive God’s promise of freedom only by believing in Jesus Christ. [3]

When we place our faith in Jesus as our Savior, somethings happens in the spiritual realm and we are no longer a prisoner of sin. Paul talks about this transformation. 2 Cor. 5:17This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! [4]

When Jesus Lifts my Burden, I Have an Opportunity to Help Someone Else

There is something special when someone helps share your burden. Paul talks about this possibility. Galatians 6: Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.[5] Our burdens bring us together. As you call on others to help you bear your burdens, you will find your love and appreciation growing. Your weaknesses call forth other’s strengths. And when others call on you, you can be an agent of God’s mercy and grace, looking for nothing in return.[6]
