The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Would you like your life to be transformed? I have found that following God’s Word is life changing. One of my friends from college has been dramatically changed since he came to faith as an older adult and began to read God’s word. If you are reading this, the Lord desires to spend time with you whether you are young or old. God will meet you where you are!

I remember my mother reading me stories from a children’s Bible when I was a toddler. I always enjoyed listening to these amazing stories. As a small child I had no idea what an impact God’s word would have in my life. I do remember that I loved to hear God’s word and that has never changed throughout my life.

Paul tells us about the transforming power of God’s word. Romans 12:2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. [1]

Joseph and Mary Let God’s Word Transform Them

Joseph and Mary were people of faith and their desire to follow God’s law came out of their relationship with the Lord. It is very difficult to sustain a relationship with the Lord with “I have to” attitude. It is much easier when we desire to spend time with the Lord.

When the Lord transforms our heart through His word and the work of the Spirit, I want to spend time with Him in prayer, worship, and His word. Joseph and Mary desired to follow God’s law and have Jesus circumcised on the eighth day.

Luke 2:21 Eight days later, when the baby was circumcised, he was named Jesus, the name given him by the angel even before he was conceived. 22 Then it was time for their purification offering, as required by the law of Moses after the birth of a child; so his parents took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord. 23 The law of the Lord says, “If a woman’s first child is a boy, he must be dedicated to the Lord.” 24 So they offered the sacrifice required in the law of the Lord—“either a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.” [2]

Let God’s Word Transform You

God’s word is like a tool in the hands of a master sculptor. As the Lord begins to work on us, we are like a rough block of stone. Each chip the master removes from the stone is one step closer to the finished masterpiece. Paul tells how we each are God’s masterpiece. Ephesians 2:10For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. [3] Ask the Lord in prayer to transform you through His word and prepare yourself for the good things He will do.
