Have you ever received unexpected blessings from the Lord? Were you amazed? I believe our Lord loves to bless us with blessings through out our life that we don’t anticipate or deserve. When you walk in fellowship with God, you do not have to ask Him to bless you. The Lord wants to bless you in so many ways.
We all enjoy surprising someone we care about with an unexpected gift and the Lord also delights in doing the same thing. God’s blessings often come during your everyday life. It could be an encouraging phone call, a card that is uplifting, or an inspiring word by someone or something else that is meaningful.
An unexpected blessing my also include being disciplined by the Lord. It may not seem like a blessing at the time, but in retrospect even discipline can be a wonderful blessing when it helps us get back on the right path with the Lord.
Nehemiah Received an Unexpected Blessing
Nehemiah was the cupbearer for the King of Persia when God stirred his heart to rebuild the walls in Jerusalem. The walls had been torn down and gates burned over a hundred years before which left the city defenseless.
Nehemiah asked the King for materials to repair the city walls and received them. This was a blessing from the Lord, but the Lord was not done yet. The Lord was going to give Nehemiah something that he had not asked for which was military protection as he traveled to Jerusalem.
Nehemiah 2:9 When I came to the governors of the province west of the Euphrates River, I delivered the king’s letters to them. The king, I should add, had sent along army officers and horsemen to protect me.[1]
Unexpected Blessings Demonstrate God’s Love
Think of all the people Jesus healed as He went about His ministry. They may not have sought Him, but Jesus was seeking them. Their lives were forever changed as they encountered the unexpected gift of God’s love. Jesus would heal people and often He would use this to lead people to repentance and to place their faith in Him.
I have a friend who was led to faith at truck stop by someone he did not know. His life has been forever changed by the unexpected gift of a loving person leading him to salvation. How did the Lord seek you out and lead you to faith?
How has the Lord’s unexpected blessings affected you? Who in your life could you give an unexpected blessing to? James 1:17 Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.[2]
