God is speaking; are we listening? I believe we all wrestle with this. Perhaps the Lord is speaking to you loudly right now through His word or the work of the Holy Spirit. Are you willing to listen to what the Lord has for you?
The world’s busyness often makes it difficult to hear and chokes out what God is speaking to us. The good news is when we do listen to what the Lord has for us, it brings encouragement, peace, guidance, and assurance. The Lord gives Joshua words of encouragement, and you may need this same encouragement today.Joshua 1:9This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” [1]
John the Baptist brought God’s Word to the People
What was it like to go out to the wilderness and hear the message of repentance spoken by John the Baptist? Mark 1:4 This messenger was John the Baptist. He was in the wilderness and preached that people should be baptized to show that they had repented of their sins and turned to God to be forgiven. 5 All of Judea, including all the people of Jerusalem, went out to see and hear John. And when they confessed their sins, he baptized them in the Jordan River.[2]
As you listened to the preaching of John the Baptist, you could have observed people greatly moved by the message he spoke. Then they were baptized after they repented. The action of others moving forward spiritually can be compelling in our lives. Sometimes when we see others moving forward spiritually, it gives us the courage and the strength to do the same thing. How many moved by their repentance experience told others so they could listen to John’s message?
Listening to God is Life Changing
The people went out to John the Baptist to hear God’s word. Perhaps the Lord is drawing you to a church where He wants to speak to you through the message, God’s word, and worship. As you listen to God’s word, what is He telling you? How does what you are hearing connect to what is going on in your life? Romans 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ. [3] Praise the Lord; He wants to speak to you today! Psalm 136:1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good!
