The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Recharging through prayer is an aspect of our Christian faith that can make a significant difference in our life. It is not unusual to have a mountain top spiritual experience followed by a time of a spiritual low.

Mountain top experiences can be spiritually draining. While they energize, they may mask fatigue. Spiritually, we are like a battery, and just as a battery needs to be recharged, we also need to be restored. One of the ways we can recharge is by spending time with the Lord in prayer and His word. The Lord rejuvenates us as we spend time with Him. This is important even after a spiritual high as it helps us avoid spiritual lows.

Jesus is the Model for Getting Recharged

Crowds ran ahead to the place Jesus and the disciples were going. Instead of a restful place, Jesus found masses of people. Even with this, Jesus cared for the people and began teaching them many things. The disciples came to Him late in the day because the people needed to go home to eat. But Jesus did not send them home but did an amazing miracle. He fed 5000 men plus women and children by multiplying two fish and five loaves of bread.

After this exhausting day of ministry, Jesus sent the disciples to the other side of the Sea of Galilee. Mark 6:46 After telling everyone goodbye, Jesus went up into the hills by himself to pray. [1] Teaching and feeding thousands of people was a mountaintop experience, but Jesus knew the importance of recharging Himself through prayer. The same is true for us.

Get Alone with Him and Pray

Scripture guides us in our prayer time. Matthew 6:But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you. [2]  When alone with God, we are free to pour out our hearts with complete honesty. Ask the Lord to guide your prayer time by the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit may suggest what to pray about or direct you to a passage of Scripture on which to meditate.

James 5:16The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.[3] Time spent with the Lord in His word and prayer refreshes us and gives us renewed strength for the journey the Lord has for us. Instead of a spiritual low, God raises us. Psalm 104:10You make springs pour water into the ravines, so streams gush down from the mountains.[4]
