Jesus protects us in the storms of life. We may not think about this until a trial is upon us. When we think of the storms of life, we immediately think of physical protection and forget about spiritual protection. We live in a sinful world, and people are injured or killed in storms of life that can be natural or man-made. Disease or other physical ailments may cause a storm.
On this side of eternity, we don’t always understand why things happen the way they do. You may be experiencing a trial right now, and God is not answering your prayers as you desire. It can be challenging to trust that God knows best regarding our physical and spiritual health. Psalm 46:1God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. 2 So we will not fear when earthquakes come. [1]
Looking to Jesus in Our Storm
The disciples were sailing across to the other side of the Sea of Galilee when a sudden storm came. The storm would be a test of their faith.
Mark 6:48 Jesus saw that they were in serious trouble, rowing hard and struggling against the wind and waves. About three o’clock in the morning, Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. He intended to go past them, 49, but when they saw him walking on the water, they cried out in terror, thinking he was a ghost. 50 They were all terrified when they saw him. But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage! I am here!”[2]
Jesus traveled by foot across the water during the storm. He waited for them to call out and ask for help as He walked by. But they thought He was a ghost and were afraid. So, He calmed the winds and joined the disciples in the boat. This reminded the disciples to look to Jesus in their storm.
Jesus Always Protects Us Spiritually
I may not survive a storm to my physical body, but a believer in Jesus is always protected spiritually. I may not be healed in this world, but the Lord can heal me in heaven. I get older, and my body wears out, but eternal life awaits me. Only Enoch and Elijah left this world as living people.
Fortunately, we are always spiritually safe in the Lord’s hands as we journey through life and finally to heaven. Jesus reminds us of this spiritual protection. John 10: 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me, 29 for my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else. No one can snatch them from the Father’s hand. 30 The Father and I are one. [3]
