The Light of Christ Journey

Encouraging people on their journey with Christ

Jesus’ power over evil spirits is demonstrated many times in the Gospels. God places these stories in the Bible to give us clear evidence of His power. Perhaps you are unsure about this, and the Lord wants to show you that He is all-powerful. This gives us peace and reassurance in our spiritual battles.

Luke 11:44One day, Jesus cast out a demon from a man who couldn’t speak, and when the demon was gone, the man began to speak.[1] Matthew 8:16That evening many demon-possessed people were brought to Jesus. He cast out the evil spirits with a simple command, and he healed all the sick.[2] When you contemplate the spiritual battle occurring since satan fell into sin, it is very reassuring to know the Lord is all-powerful, including dominion over the demonic realm.

Demons Attack People

A young girl in our story today is demon-possessed. The Bible does not say when or how this happened, but the mother came to Jesus for His help. The woman knows she is helpless, but she believes that Jesus will defeat the enemy.

Mark 7:25 Right away, a woman who had heard about him came and fell at his feet. Her little girl was possessed by an evil spirit, 26 and she begged him to cast out the demon from her daughter. he said. “Now go home, for the demon has left your daughter…” 30 And when she arrived home, she found her little girl lying quietly in bed, and the demon was gone. [3] Think how this helped this woman grow in faith as she saw the power of Jesus.

Jesus’ Authority

As we have seen in our story, Jesus’ power extends over satan and the demonic world. The demon that possessed this child had to leave when Jesus cast it out. As mentioned earlier, we don’t know what led to this girl being demon-possessed. I do know many people struggle in this spiritual battle because they have given the enemy a foothold in their life. This can come from unforgiveness, lust, or some other secret sin.

If your sin has given the enemy a foothold, confess your sin to God. God promises to forgive when we confess our sins. Jesus has the authority to both forgive sin and overcome the demonic.

Ask for and submit to the power of the Holy Spirit to be transformed. Do this by being open to being led by the Holy Spirit and asking to be humble, moldable, and teachable. You may not know what to do, but the Lord does. Romans 8:14For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. [4]
